The Organ Regeneration Fund

Our organ is in a state of disarray and is at the heart of choral worship. St Andrew's has a long history of choral music and we want to safeguard that for future generations.

What is wrong with the organ?

Our organ was built in stages starting in around 1905. Some of it is much older and we have evidence of pipes in our organ from an older one, dating from 1664.

Unfortunately, the sound boards are all cracking. These are wind filled chests that deliver wind to the pipes from the blower that generates the wind in the first place. Think of it like the lungs.

Some pipes have even collapsed. The pipes are what create the notes and sounds of the organ.

Heating pipes also go through the organ, causing the wood and leather to dry our and crack much earlier than it should.

The plan for the future.

The time has come for a new organ at St Andrew's. This is a once-in-several-generations-chance to shape the future of usic in Rugby and we are all tremendously excited!

The new organ will use the best bits of the old one, so that we retain our history. But, it will be the best possible musical instrument for the building.

"The organ is the sound of the church. The instrument makes the building come alive; it breathes almost like a living thing."

Will Uglow, Director of Music - St Andrew's Church

How can you help?

At this stage, before proposals have been drawn up, we are looking for funds to pay contractors for their work in getting quotes together. Because of the bespoke nature of a pipe organ, many days of work must go into producing a proposal and it is fair that they ask for a contribution to this work.
